Ladies & Gentlemen, Boys & Girls, Commenters & Lurkers, Lovers & Haters and all the other people I missed, I’m going to do something I rarely do on or offline – I’m going to ask people for opinions about something I want to do that means a lot to me. I have always subscribed to the “If people don’t know your dreams they can’t shoot them down” ideology, but today I’m scrapping that BS and putting myself in harms way to share something I really WANT to do – and since you clicked this post open and have decided to read I require that YOU give me some feedback or risk having me trace your IP address so I can come to your job and hit you with a Stone Cold Stunner in your cubicle for ignoring my impassioned plea.

I want to do a Live Show. Now I’m CLEARLY not a comedian nor do I WANT to be one, but basically I want to take my over-the-top opinions and do a live version of this blog in front of an audience full of people. Like this blog, I want it to be hilarious, insightful, serious, offensive but more than anything else, simply ENTERTAINING. As much as I LOVE writing, my passion has always been pubic speaking, whether it was being the opinionated, DOUCHEY class-clown, being on the debate team or being the mike-man on a reggae sound system screaming at some grown nigga from Kingston 13 in a sound clash “Mek mi murda UNO BLOODCLAAAT!” Though I LOVE writing, this is actually my 2nd love and being on stage in front of people is my first.

So now that we have the WHY out of the way, let me explain my vision:

I already have a name for the show: “Yes, I’m Generalizing…No, I’m NOT wrong!” and here’s what I see happening:

First, the show will start with a DJ warming y’all asses up with some BIG tunes to get your frowsy-asses up outta your chairs and then open the show with 2 funny ass comics and 1 live performer to set the tone and mood – and then I will come out with a BIG ASS projection screen behind me, and proceed to rant and rave about whatever specific predetermined topics I’m passionate about for 45-65 minutes, interspersed with prerecorded FUNNY ass skits, special guests, Youtube videos I will be using to explain or defend my stances on certain topics and even crowd interaction. At the end I would have a minimum of 15 minutes for crowd questions and comments, so people can ask for advice or just call me an uninformed, ego-maniacal, unfunny DOUCHEBAG.

I have mapped out my WORST-CASE scenario, which would be doing my first free show and only getting 7 people to come out and having 3 of them boo and heckle me relentlessly while the other 4 duck out before the show is even over because they were too damn bored, offended or disgusted to stomach the rest. I go up on stage and freeze up like a vagina full of Novocain, I have an abundance of technical problems and have my terrible performance all recorded and put up on Youtube where it gets a million hits on a video called “Watch this wack nigga embarrass himself” which follows me all the way up to my Grandchildren’s high-school graduation.

On the other hand, the BEST-CASE scenario is that [much like my blog attempts to be] I get a good-sized crowd to watch, most of who like it and find my points of view funny, intriguing or interesting, and the people who are offended stay throughout the entire show just to register their dislike of me and my points of view during the final 15 minutes and I can take this show on the road. Basically it would be 25% John Leguizamo’s “Freak”, 25% “An Evening With Kevin Smith”, 25% Dave Chappelle’s “Block Party” and 25% CNN with my own unique touch.

There’s a lot more, but I feel like that is the jist of what you NEED to know in order to give me some qualitative feedback. And all you people who read and don’t comment and just lurk all day, I’m actually genuinely asking for your help, questions and opinions on this one.

Thanks in advance.

Ladies And Gentlemen, What Do You Think Of My LIVE SHOW Idea? Any Opinions On How It Could Work?

Or Should I Scrap The Idea Before I End Up Embarrassing Myself Like Charlie Sheen's BULLSHIT Show?

  2. krystllyght

I think it sounds good. I'd go see it if I could. I wish I had suggestions but I've never been to anything like that sooooo……. I'll just say I'd go if I could.

  3. ArmaniSynclair

Yesssssss I love your idea do it !

  4. gtman811

I actually like your idea, however, I would suggest that the content be along lines of the Boondocks and Dave Chapelle. Just like your posts, it should be full of satire, sardonic humor, thought-provoking content. But not, a lot of filler fluff, that will make your show saturated with bullshit. Sorry, but Im the hard truth sarcastic, cynical type of person……think of me as Dr. House but Im a Black Engineer.

  5. gtman811

Oh, try to not make your show like that Steve Harvey special, about Black Marriage. It was full of shit. Nothing got solved, the only one that had a legitimate argument was Hill Harper, when that ugly ass woman played him in Burger King or whatever it was. It was a wasted hour of my time.

  6. AJ Metoyer

Do it. I read these blogs everyday and they're very funny and interesting to me. You will only make it better with a live show.

  7. KemaVA

    I say go for it!

How about doing a test drive and doing one of your blog post via vblog. (not sure if you've done this already) This would give us a bit of a preview.

  8. ChloeRayne516

    Do it!!

If that's your dream then you shouldn't let anyone defer it.

    GOOD LUCK!!!

  9. MistaHarsh

do you think the show would benefit with more focus instead of being all things to all people (ie comedians/live performers etc.)? I feel that the 45-65min session which is the purspose of the show maybe the most challenging time to hold the audience's attention after all the other hijinks.

I like the idea however. Another question: why does it have to be LIVE? With all the production going on wouldn't it benefit from the ability to edit and create a taped show?

  10. MistaHarsh

Hill put Sherri Shepard on blast! He repped well for the men. But yeah nothing of value or and resolution came from it.

  11. *Big ups to me for no longer lurking*

I think it could work. I've read all your blogs to date & they keep me in stitches! Even when i don't agree. So, I say do it! The vblog as a trial run was a very good idea!

  12. ATLienSince82

Welcome Carmelita! One requirement for new females posting is yawl gotta drop your measurements..I'm guessing 36-24-38??

  13. ATLienSince82

He would really need to sell himself in order for that to work so folks knew what they were paying for..

  14. vivan

I say do it! Nothing tried nothing gained. You already have a fan base. So its not like you have to stand out on the street and hand out free samples to attract people. I read your blogs everyday, and I would love to see it go live.

  15. TJay

I love the idea!! Hopefully you'll be able to do a few shows in NYC.

  16. KemaVA

Are these the new 'perfect' measurements? lol!

  17. Vixen

I can see you doing very well considering how you have my cracking up reading your blogs. I will support whatever you do!

  18. An absolutely fantastic idea. Go for it!

  19. Thanks for the feedback AJ! I'm feeling live is the best way to go too

  20. I might need to fly you and your husband down here for the support so it's not completely empty!

  21. KemaVA

If it were in NYC I would take a China bus up to see! :-)

  22. Yeah Satire is really my thing too and I would want there to be some real thought-provoking moments which is the reason I don't want to say it's a comedy show…there will be times when I genuinely won't be trying to get laughs but speaking on issues to get people's minds working..

I was thinking of not having too much other crap around so it becomes corny so thanks for that feedback gtman

  23. Fuck a Steve Harvey approach! Good feedback again gt

  24. How did he put her on blast?

  25. See I'm a little leary about the vlog thing, because anytime I speak in front of a crowd I'm really motivated by their energy and reactions whether it's positive or negative….I feel like standing in my bedroom looking into a camera would be devoid of that human crowd reaction that drives my energy, but I like your idea though and it's worth a try

    Thanks Speed Racer

  26. It's the internal-conflict struggle that's killing me…but I appreciate the support!

    p.s. buy a ticket nuh!

  27. I actually think I could go a lot longer than 45 minutes and keep it interesting but cutting down on some of the hijinks is definitely a good idea tho

I guess when I said live i meant more like "in front of an audience" i'm not opposed to doing a taped show and cutting and pasting it for a straight to youtube special

  28. Big ups to you for real Carmelita!

I'm definitely considering the vlog idea

  29. MistaHarsh

True but he's been promoting/hosting events for a while he does have somewhat of a reputation. It shouldn't be a one man show but keep it more focused.

For example have a theme:if his topic is about cheating the comedians/performers should touch on that subject and then Linc comes thru as the clean up hitter to add some common sense to the equation.

But if the Comedian talks about Trini vs Jamaica, no one is going to care what Linc has to say if he's talking about not dating women with kids, nahmean?

Linc I hope you are going to comment in real time you've been absent lately. Bounce off ideas

  30. Thanks Vixen! The support is more than appreciated!

  31. Good Lawd TJay! I will need to work up my on-stage confidence before I step infront of y'all rude asses! But NYC would be a MUST

    Thanks for your opinion!

  32. Thank vivan! I think going live would be challenging but if I pull it off correctly it could be real entertaining

  33. I think you should go for it – find a reason – maybe have people bring a donation for a cause – and go all out – forget any mishaps and YouTube possibilities and make it happen

  34. Nothing should get in the way of your true passion. I say go for it! I'd watch it lol.

  35. Ashley

I'd actually really like that! Your blog iss great and I'm sure the show would be entertaining as hell! :)

  36. Thanks Connie! I appreciate the support!

  37. You wanna hear a part of my dream I haven't mentioned yet? I would eventually like to take this to Bim and perform in front of a stadium full of Bajans and see if my offensive rant ends up in me getting showered with Ju-C bottles…at least they are plastic now, right?!

  38. Thanks Ashley! Hopefully you would come when it's in your town!

  39. Thanks Janelle! I appreciate the support!

  40. I don't think I could wax philosophic on one topic too long and I tend to digress too much in one conversation for me to stay on topic which may leave people who want me to stay on topic a little frustrated, no?

One of the reasons I like posting a couple blogs a day is because I have a lot to say about different topics and I think focusing on one might get a little boring..

Sorry about the absences but I am taking some investment exams at work and I've been buried in books studying for the past couple months

  41. I wish I was able to comment on your AIDS infested blog… I will give you my feedback via BBM I suppose.

  42. imakesense

I think its a good idea. Is it a one man show? I'd go. Just make the tickets cheap please I'm a struggling student lol.

  43. Jesus. I should definitely stop posting. I'll come back when I plump in the hips and starve myself in the waist.

  44. I support this! Don't talk just do!

  45. My first run of shows will have the most affordable prices a student could ever ask for – FREE!

See now you got no excuses not to reach!

  46. Jason Howe

I was going to suggest the same thing, but I see your point.

  47. Jason Howe

You kill me, but…… I was just about to google her and check her out on facebook. lol

  48. Jason Howe

Just do the shit man, I will even come…… if its free, lol. On another note, my girl said she met you at a wedding two weeks ago, said your cool peeps.

  49. Jason Howe

I think I might spend the whole damn night trying to figure out who the other s are who comment tho…

  50. Arab Money

Great idea Lincoln, I think the live show is the best way to go. It is more intimate and would probably be more cost effective. I like the idea of the comedians and the DJ to hype up the crowd.

There is a great venue that i went to for a variety show hosted by a guy named "Big Norm" held at El Mocombo a few years ago (Spadina and College). It has a large stage, and lots of room by the bar for dancing or chairs if you'd like. You can probably run an event for free that night in exchange for the bar getting all the alcohol revenues. May need to so a bit of negotiation, but very possible. Or you can charge like $5-$10 at the door to cover some of the costs.

Ever thought about having a panel of women on one side and men on the other on stage to agree/disagree/debate topics brought up by audience members, youtube submissions, topics brought up by the host etc.

I think it can work and be very entertaining. Marketing would be minimal as you have a captive audience on here anyhow + word of mouth.

    A very good show indeed!!!

  51. Shonee80

I'm fairly new to your blog and think your topics are very interesting. I think your idea is new and refreshing and you should go for it. There will always be haters, just go with your gut.

  52. krystllyght

    Free trip!

  53. KemaVA

You know I can see your point…

I was watching America's Got Talent and the comedians were pretty good when performing in front of the audience but when it came time to do it in front of the three judges only they kinda sucked.

  54. Jason Howe

Damn I think the idea is great after seeing all these new faces coming out of lurk mode to urge you on.

  55. Jet Blue flights start from $49!

  56. ChloeRayne516

    I agree with kema's suggestion…

  57. Thanks for reading and coming out of lurking Shonee!

  58. KemaVA

I feel you on the studying… Ive just started studying for actuary exams again. o_0

  59. Now THAT'S feedback! Gave me a venue choice and everything!

I definitely would have a panel as a feature to add at the end, but I find that if all the members aren't interesting it can drive the energy of the show down into the pits…I have been on panels with people who put the damn audience to sleep…

I might need to have you consult me on this! [You will get paid in Heineken's to start!]

  60. Jem

I'm a daily lurker! lol I love the idea, the only suggestion I have is that instead of only having an open mic, it may be more interesting if you have a few guests that disagree and maybe some that agree with what you are talking about. Nothing like a heated argument!

  61. It's so different for real though…like I have considered vlogging but I wouldn't be half as animated, interesting or entertaining as I would be in front of people…it's weird

  62. There's big damn money on the other end of your exam!

  63. Yeah even I'm a little surprised at the amount of lurkers! Look how many people are reading your comments and stalking your Facebook on the regular

  64. Oh for real? My energy was real down that day because it was long and hot so hopefully she doesn't hold that against me…

  65. Thanks for coming out of lurking Jem! That is actually an AMAZING idea, and I would love to meet like the female version of myself who could get in my ass in a hilarious, thought provoking way because that would balance the show out a lot!

    Thanks!

  66. mmmj

absolutely! come do it in new york!

  67. Lady_B

I say go for it! I don't see it taking a Charlie Sheen nosedive, his problem was that he said all his interesting shit in his little rants and when the time for his tour came he didn't have anything left to rant about…I don't think you'll ever run out of things to talk about because there will always be douche bags who say and do things that don't make any friggin sense!

As for the panel, audition you panelists. It's your show and them being boring won't be a reflection of their disinteresting asses, it will always be "Lincoln had this girl on the panel at his show…" Choose people who you know can deliver and I think that would fly over pretty well.

I'll be looking out for this and now that you've put it out there I expect product!

  68. All for it. I really like your blog, this sounds like the making of a great watch. Hopefully the network chosen is able to get picked up by viewers outside of the Toronto area (Boston, MA). Wishing you the best of luck on making this dream a reality.

  69. Thanks Nellie! I think I would need to take this show on the road before I get networks actively involved and interested because the idea hasn't really been done before so I need to prove to them that it's actually interesting…so Boston definitely would be a great place to do a show, I just wonder how I could effectively go about spreading the word in cities outside of my own..any suggestions?

  70. Thanks for the feedback! I would love to hire people with interesting viewpoints to assist, like Wanda Sykes, so the panel could make people laugh and keep them intrigued

  71. You NY'ers are tough but I think that would make me have to step my game up!

  72. MistaHarsh

Valid points. There will be topics that people will want to discuss ad nauseam so designate the time accordingly. But I understand the thrill of instant feedback from the audience its a hell of a drug.

No worries on the exams stuff. Interesting though you should have a topic on investments especially in these times. People bailing from stock drops when they should be investing when the stock drops. I would definitely like to hear your professional opinion.

  73. GO FOR IT!! It's a great idea, really liking the premise. Don't stop writing though, us UK brothers can't attend Canada every week. Lol!

  74. Vicky

Great idea Lincoln! I love, love, love your blog and I'm sure you will work the stage without a problem!

I think you should have some special guests – like us who comment every damn day! LOL! :)

  75. Man if I can't make it up to the UK then yawl gotta come here and be guests because that shit would be HILARIOUS!

  76. I can bring you on the stage and you can fist fight live with Independent Woman! LoL

  77. Thanks Dexter…A lot of good advice there!

  78. You wouldn't believe how crazy the debt ceiling affected my work since I deal with only US clients…but that's a good idea for a write-up..

I'm thinking the show will have to grow organically to some extent, so the first few runs will be to spot and then iron out the kinks

  79. Vicky

LMAO!!! No mud or jello allowed!

  80. Love LOVE LOVEEEE it! But you know you are gonna have to eventually come and perform here in Manhattan!

  81. Don't try and run from us! LMAOOOO

  82. MistaHarsh

They were talking about potential and Hill told a true story how he first meet Sherri. He tried to holla at her in LA before his fame when all he had was a bus pass she turned him down because he was broke. Sherri's single ass fell out her seat in embarrassment.

  83. NurseJilly

I would 100% come support you live. I read your posts every day even though I often don't get the time to comment. I say do it:)

  84. So I'm on the fence. I love your blog, read it constantly but rarely comment.

I'm just not too sure about how essence of the blog will transmit off of paper. I have experienced people that were very entertaining in one medium try to transfer to another and it did not go so well for them. I cannot really say too much though because I don't know you in real life. I would say if your family, friends, ppl you encounter think you will be great then give it a shot. Maybe if you took questions from the audience…

Anyway that is just my honesty opinion, hopefully your other readers won't be too upset at me

  85. All opinions are welcome so I appreciate your honesty…it's not hating at all, just you stating your unfiltered, unbiased and honest thoughts and I know there would be a great challenge to convert over but I think I'm up to it

  86. You have an HIV infested computer and my blog caught it before the AIDS spread throughout my blog!

  87. I'm ready for the "hate! hate! hate! hate!" [ /dave chappelle reference ]

  88. Thanks Jill..I appreciate it!

  89. Vicky

Skype, twitter, video submissions from the guests…..Everyone can participate no matter where they are in the world.

  90. Vicky

Break out the Mas costumes! It's on!!! LOL

  91. Bostonian Lurker

    Hey Linc!
I think it would be a great idea! If I come up there, I will definitely go. Although…..you should definitely do it here in Boston :)

And on the note of effectively spreading the word in cities: You could make a facebook group, or make a youtube video. Or even I could make a facebook group for you so all my friends in Boston know!

    -Aubrey

  92. mmmj

DO IT! id even get a chance to pick your brain after. my friends and i are huuuuge supporters/followers of TIYC

  93. Good ideas! I also think I would need to hook up with event planners in those specific cities, but then again I have no clue how national tours are even done

  94. Thanks Aubrey I appreciate the help fam! I may be taking you up on that offer sooner than later!

  95. I think this is an excellent idea. And I think it's unique enough from the typical standup comedy thing to actually be relevant, too. Just as long as you can manage to keep writing the blog everyday, I'm behind it :) .

  96. Candice

    I say go for it !! :)

  97. krystllyght

Gosh I didn't realize you had so many woman readers.

  98. HerCommonSense

I think the A/V will be a great touch to keep people involved. Maybe a few small test shows just in front of your close friends would be good practice

  99. HerCommonSense

There's a sh-tload of lurkers up in here!

  100. krystllyght

I know right but it's good to see so many people supporting somebody's dream.

  101. krystllyght

That is a good idea Jem. That would be very entertaining to watch.

  102. Yup, some have sent friends request and all, real cool people.

  103. She bbm'ed me like "guess who is here at the wedding?" Someone is a celebrity, lol. She is the one who turned me on to the blog tho. And no, she said she spoke with you and you were real cool people.

  104. Shaun

I agree and leave out the comedians who might upstage you. Use the skits to illustrate your points or set the tone for your topics.

  105. Adrian

Go for it! I'm not entirely sure of how it'll turn out, or how an audience will recieve it (would they be able to sit through it without yelling out their two cents when they disagree with one or all of your opinions). Nevertheless, one thing is certain: I will DEFINITELY be in attendance.

  106. Adrian

Guaranteed I will pre-order tickets for my self and at least a dozen of my FROWSY friends!

  107. lincolnanthonyblades

Thanks Sense I Appreciate That Idea!

  108. lincolnanthonyblades

I Actually Wonder That Too…I Think I Will Need To Have A Mic Nearby So People Can Walk Up And Comment

  109. lincolnanthonyblades

    Thanks Candice! Appreciate It

  110. lincolnanthonyblades

You Know What's Funny…I Can't Sleep Properly Unless I Have My Blog Posts Up?? It's Like Leaving The House Without A Cell Phone, I Just Feel WEIRD!

Anyways You BETTER Be There Too Danni!

  111. lincolnanthonyblades

    LoL!

  112. Aleyah the Great

sounds interesting. i think it's a good idea, go for it

  113. MonMon

I never comment but I read your blog daily because I like your no-nonsense talk. I would definitely come out to see a show based on how you have outlined it. I know enough of my friends would come because we all make references to your site. I think you should do it because it will be a great event to attend.

  114. The_Mad_HATER

this would be some funny shit to see live!! a lot of feelings would get damaged!

  115. Reggie

I think you have a good idea on your hands but I would like to put in a little input. First off, people in general have a short attention span. With that being said, you talking about one topic for more than 10 minutes will lose your crowd. Now not all people will be this was but the majority will be. It will also be incredibly hard to get this aired on a public station. Have you considered maybe approaching an already existing show and do a guest feature maybe once a week or even on a daily basis where you would do maybe 3 to 5 minutes of your opinionated intelligence in order to build your fan base. Remember tv is all dollars and cents. If you have 10000 dedicated followers now, that equates to very little money for any tv station. When a tv or even radio station decides to take something off the internet, they look at it as if only 10% of your online fanbase will tune in to a daily tv or radio show. For example, a certain blog had to show that they had 1,000,000 followers before they got aired on TV. Now their fanbase is at over 50 million.
Whatever you do do, I will support as well as many others that read your blogs on a daily basis. Good luck
