Last night, Barack Obama delivered a poignant and optimistic speech on the recovery plan that America is going to use to right the economy and create more jobs. What’s especially interesting about this particular speech is that he was very PASSIONATE in his stance as well as being downright combative and confrontational. Though I love his hopeful and inspirational speeches, I was excited most of all to see Barack do the one thing I have been waiting for him to do for years: Embrace the “Angry Black Man” inside no matter what ANYONE thinks.

Every gainfully-employed Black person reading this should be painfully aware of the ‘Angry-Black Man/Woman’ stereotype that is far too propagated in non-Black communities. In our own jobs we have to be fully cognizant of the Angry Black Person stereotype because it’s no exaggeration to say being labelled that at your workplace will have extremely detrimental effects on your career. We all know that if one of our non-Black co-workers goes on a cussing rampage and tells everyone within sight what’s on his or her mind and that everyone there is stupid and can kiss their ass with their tongue, some people may get tight and security may get called to get involved – but if that’s a Black person, they are calling the National Guard like Godzilla came through [like Snoop] and crushed the buildings. If you know YOU have to be aware of this, just imagine how much MORE aware Barack is of this prejudicial caricature – until last night.

So to see Barack finally take a threatening stance was amazing to me because of how level-headed he has managed to appear all-throughout. The BS and treasonous-disrespect he has had to endure since his candidacy was literally unprecedented. And now, on the precipice of reelection, he did the one thing that Black people have been waiting on for a MINUTE: He straight up ATTACKED the Republicans BACK and told them to get their punk-asses in line and help him run the damn country. Now I’m not gonna pretend I possess to economic wherewithal to analyze the benefits of his plan – but whether or not the American Jobs Act will work is really up to how much both members of congress reach across the aisle to lend a helping hand as opposed to trying to land an overhand right like Pacquiao.

Oh, and while we are on the topic of Barack Obama, Black people, I have one quick message for you: Barack is NOT your f*^king homeboy, he’s the PRESIDENT of the UNITED STATES of AMERICA, and the leader of the free world. Black Intellectuals, y’all need to stop B*tching and psychoanalyzing his racial leanings because he didn’t sign your copy of “Dreams From My Father” [I'm looking at you Cornel West]. And conversely we need to stop acting like it’s Barack’s PERSONAL job to put grilled government cheese sandwiches on your damn table with a side of hot sauce and a tall glass of purple drink.

The fact is, if we as Black folks believe that Barack should be receiving a lot more RESPECT, we also need to show a lot more PROFESSIONALISM towards him our damn selves.

Ladies & Gentlemen, Do You Believe That The Angry Black Person Stereotype Is Still Well And Alive Even To This Day? Do You Think It Actually Impacts The Way The President Communicates?

What Are Your Thoughts On His Speech?

If Jesus is my homeboy why cant Barack be too? #IJS

  3. Of course the stereotype exists. Now I can't say if it impacts the way President Obama speaks or not, because unless he verbalizes that it does, we may never know. I'm glad he finally took it to the Tea Baggers because it was long overdue.

In my opinion, the greatest revenge will be success, so it will be interesting to see if things work out.

Barack is gonna win just because all the Republican candidates suck!!

well Crystal is he/are you still gonna be blaming Bush for the next 4 years ? Is that like "YES WE CAN" (well could've if I hadn't been the guy after Bush) maybe he should have put that under all the slogans so we wouldn't have messed up and voted for him to begin with. Blame Republicans all you want but we've had the last 4 years. We had a majority and the President and show me where we are better off. I'm so sick of his speeches all he does is talk. oh and the republican candidates suck now, but give them another 4 years . If we keep going the way we are now they'll have plenty of ammo to beat us with. We'll all be so broke and desperate maybe even Sarah Palin will be appealing.
