If the Occupy movements all over the world have not awoken your mind to the fact that we live in a much different social-economic dynamic than ever before, then allow me to point this out to you right now: We live in a society with a growing wealth disparity where the middle class is disappearing and job security is quickly becoming a thing of the past. Hell, if you think you are going to rack up some huge College debt to get a good degree so you can get a FAIR entry-level salary, and then work your way through various promotions while stacking funds in retirement and savings accounts to live a comfy Middle/High-Middle class lifestyle with your wife/husband, 2 and a half kids, dog and white picket fence, you are an outdated dreamer. Those things are NOT staples in society anymore, and that being the case, running into a woman who is not only cognizant of that, but also smart, strong and courageous enough to do HER own thing is one of the sexiest features a woman can have these days.

Now I’m NOT stating that all female entrepreneurs do so out of complete financial necessity, as the reality is PASSION and loving what they do plays a HUGE part in deciding to run their own business, but it’s all aspects of being an entrepreneur that makes female entrepreneurs so-F*^KING-sexy. Such as:

1) CONFIDENCE

Don’t be mistaken – it takes a sh*tload of confidence to decide to start a new business considering statistics prove that the majority of new business FAIL – and FAIL very quickly (within the first 3 months). There are a MILLION things that can go wrong and they all end in HORRIBLE manners which can leave someone in DIRE straits. You can blow your loan or investor’s financing and be on the hook for a LOT of money, you can completely make a fool of yourself and hurt your reputation and you can simply be terribly overmatched in the market place – and these are the RISKS that entrepreneurs face EVERYDAY, and for them to thrive through that is not only impressive – it’s ADMIRABLE.

Any woman who can put herself out there like that in the face of statistical demise and THRIVE with a great business is a woman who already possesses the grit and tenacity a man would LOVE to see in a woman he would want to stand by him through thick and thin.

2) PASSION

To own your own business requires you to be immersed in it everyday, and not just from a numbers or business perspective, but from a pure LOVE perspective. Whether your field is marketing, fashion, music, or paper clips, you need to know and truly CARE about what your field is in order to be successful, and the people who are tend to experience the most success.

When I imagine a beautiful female entrepreneur deciding to start a business, I imagine her deciding to create a niche in a market she LOVES and her eyes lighting up anytime that topic is discussed. If I had a choice, I would rather come home to a gorgeous entrepreneur totally emotionally enveloped into her business, than a gorgeous employee who hates her job, hates her boss and generally is unsatisfied with life and has NO CLUE or DESIRE to shake herself out of her funk.

3) WILL

To add on to the last sentence I just typed in the last point, most men and women are languishing away at jobs they don’t really care for, working for people they don’t really like, and wishing they could make a change but are way too frightened and lazy to. The sexy-ass characteristic that entrepreneurs have that makes them so damn enticing, is the fact that they choose NOT to live life unhappy and on someone else’s terms – they will make sure they live the life that THEY deem is good for THEMSELVES.

Having the WILL to get up ON-TIME knowing you are your own boss and nobody will yell at you for coming to work late is SEXY. Having the WILL to persevere through tough times (and there will be MANY tough times as an entrepreneur) is SEXY. And having the WILL to come to the employee/entrepreneur fork in the road and taking the road less traveled towards being a BOSS is SEXY AS HELL.

Ladies, Are There Any Entrepreneurs In The House? Have Any Of You Found Being An Entrepreneur To Be A Bigger Advantage Or Disadvantage To Your Dating Life?

Gentlemen, Are You Feeling Female Entrepreneurs Too? Or Do You Find Them Unappealing For Whatever Reason?

  2. MistaHarsh

but what you're not mentioning is that the man/women who has a steady income from their "miserable" 9-5 job is supporting the entrepreneur during the "slow seasons". Most Self employed people don't receive regular payments its sporadic. When money is coming in its great but when there's a drought it could be months before they make another profit. Bills and mortgage payments don't wait. I think its more sexy to have a 9 to 5er and still have another source of income on the side.

  3. That's not true. I am one of the females he speaks about in this article and I am holding down a 9-5 job to pay my bills ON TOP OF building my own successful business/travel empire. As women, we are the natural born multi-taskers…you just need to find the right one.

  4. point being….I would never put the pressure to hold me down during those times, on someone else…..but…I'm also not married. I don't have time for it right now, as I'm an entrepreneur in the building phase.

  5. Loved this piece. Being as though I am one of the women you write about in this article. I feel as though entrepreneurship is sexy to anyone. Whether it is the person simply drawn to the power of the person's position, or those who truly respect it and may want to pick their brain in order to get there themselves.

But there is something about a woman in charge, even other women feel it.

The one thing I would add is BALANCE. Granted I know my own scale is slighted around 90-10. 90 percent being building http://nomadnesstv.com and 10 being the rest of my life. It is slowly but surely bleeding into itself, and becoming one. I am obsessed with what I do, and that is where that PASSION you spoke about comes from. It has to be there, or you won't survive the tough times. BALANCE makes it so that even if you only have 2%, you cherish it and use it wisely so that you don't completely burn the hell out. I've seen men fine as hell, burn out, and I have to walk away. If you can't balance yourself, I know you can't handle me and all I'm doing. Balance is also noted in the way the woman carries herself. Judge me if you want too, but the right female entrepreneur knows the right top, dress, or skirt to wear into what meeting. Something that says, "Yes I still have lady parts you want, but I run this world you are stepping into here, so keep it classy."

"Boy you know you love it how we're smart enough to make these millions. Strong enough to bare the children. Then get back to business." -Beyonce "Run The World"

Hey you're the beautiful woman that was dropping science at that battle of the sexes thing so you have my respect for all that you're doing off top. But in my last sentence I DID say having a 9-5 and being able to make money on the side is even sexier.

Hey Evie, you seem very down to earth and intriguing I actually looked into your website before and Its very informative but it seems more for personal growth and sharing stories and ideas than an actual business bringing in money. Since I have your ear can you explain the business aspect of this venture? And what are the donations for?

  8. Great piece. There is no one way to do it when it comes to building a business, a brand and an ever expanding network. A woman with the mind set to do so is sexy beyond belief. And if this woman can do so within a balanced functional relationship than that is the ultimate prize. But not everyone is no the boat to do both. Some have to give that passion 100% to their business at the disregard of social dealings. Some others can flip both depending on where their priorities are.

To me, building your own business or being able to excel in a field you enjoy is the ideal "career" destination. The scale varies from person to person so we each have to find our own match but I will say that my partner, who ever it may be WILL be about that business.

    This was a great piece!

I'm still in college and I just incorporated myself this summer. Disadvantages I've found in my entrepreneurialism, at least this early on? Time… after a full day of classes I still have to put in 4 more hours into my company. And the fact that some people don't believe I do what I do, lol mainly or they don't understand what I do.
Advantages? Everyday I get to do what I love, and get paid lol this makes me one of the happiest people alive— people usually sense this self-satisfaction.

And on top of that, what 20 year old wouldn't like being able to say I own my own innovation company, and we create and sell bad ass web enterprises? *blush*

  10. Absolutely! Firstly, thank you for checking out the site. The website itself is an online representation of a bigger picture. I am the Founder and COO of evierobbie. media LLC, in which all my freelance creative projects are based, Nomad.ness being in the forefront. It is a project that started personal, gained steam, and is now much greater than just me.
Nomad.ness TV started as a webseries (which episodes I'm not sure if you saw on the site) and is currently in talks to be picked up as a travel television series, geared towards a younger, urban based demographic. From the series and site I have a successful group call the Nomad.ness Travel Tribe in which members link and share stories, photos, and travel insight all around the world, under the umbrella of my brand. It is a world-wide travel movement, with the face of a Black woman at the head of it.

  11. In conjunction, I have a travel memoir in the works, as well as my own bag line (also represented on the website) called DRT.BGs. The donations were primarily to raise funds for shooting the pilot episode I shot in Berlin for the TV Network pitching package. And you probably also saw the successful Kickstarter fundraiser that I held over the summer, as the banner is present to the right as well. Thanks for checking the site. Much appreciated. If you have at least one international stamp in your passport, and are on Facebook…you qualify to be in the Tribe. Let me know.

    -Evie

  12. So…MistaHarsh….after all that, am I still sexy? ;-) lol. sorry I just LOVE what I do. everyday of my life!

  13. MistaHarsh

girl you were sexy BEFORE all of that, lol. I think you got something with a travel TV show, there is an untapped market that you'll definitely hit. It is a turn on in general to find someone who is just happy with life. You seem to be at that point. kudos to you.

As far as international stamps, I only have Trinidad and Dominica but nothing overseas so I'll refrain from entering the Tribe at this point. But I will follow your site and wish you all the best.

Good luck on your entrepreneurial endeavors Evie : )

  14. Thank you for this post! Your words were the very encouragement I needed to hear today. As a solo attorney and entrepreneur, I sometimes get caught up in my clients deals and business needs and forget my own accomplishments. This was a great reminder. Entrepreneurship isn't for everybody. And only the strong survive! *hugs*
