2012 NFL Week Thirteen Review: The Niners Got A Serious PROBLEM

I’ll be honest: I’m not a HUGE Alex Smith fan because I think he is unable to do ANYTHING more than check down and defer to a great running back, but even I was a little confused that he lost his job to rookie Colin Kaepernick. The Niners have been dominating their competition and Smith, though very flawed, had them winning games. But with that said, I understood that Kaepernick is the FUTURE out in San Fran, so I never disparaged the move, and most people (except Skip Bayless) went along with Harbaugh’s decision to bench Alex as well. It was ALL GOOD when they were winning, but now after dropping what should have been an easy win over the Rams, San Fran is staring down controversy they REALLY don’t need.

1) A QB CONTROVERSY WILL HURT THE NINERS SUPER BOWL CHANCES

Let’s be clear: Kaepernick nor Smith are Super Bowl calibre quarterbacks. What they have going for them is the confidence and support of their head coach and teammates, but if even THAT gets fractured, they are in DEEP TROUBLE. The Niners have a championship D and running game, but like all great teams, they will eventually NEED their QB to step up and make plays – and that will be damn near IMPOSSIBLE if the players and coaches are TORN on who they should put their support behind. On another note, like I’ve said all year, these Rams are TOUGH and I think if they add a few good pieces NEXT season, they will be a wildcard team.

2) DENVER BRONCOS ARE OFFICIALLY IN THE PLAYOFFS

By beating the Tampa Bay Bucs 31-23 on Sunday, Denver has secured a playoff spot, making Manning and Elway look like geniuses for deciding to team up with each other. Once again, I have them in the AFC championship game and I wouldn’t be SHOCKED if they make it to the Super Bowl.

3) I’M READY TO CALL ADRIAN PETERSON ONE OF THE 5 BEST RUNNING BACKS I’VE EVER SEEN

I had a conversation with a friend the other day about the 5 best running backs I’ve ever seen with my own 2 eyes [so clearly I can’t include Jim Brown, Franco Harris & O.J. Simpson]. My list is Barry Sanders, Emmitt Smith and Marshall Faulk so far, but I’m ready to include A.D. on that list. The way he has been beasting this season after his ACL tear, even in the Vikings loss to the Packers, it’s safe for me to say that he’s one of the most incredible athletes I’ve ever seen in my life.

4) RUSSELL WILSON IS ONE OF THE MOST CLUTCH QB’S IN THE LEAGUE

Wilson has been clutch against the Patriots and the Packers [regardless of what you think about that call], and he was extremely clutch on Sunday in the Seahawks win over the Bears in Chicago. Look up the stats, Wilson is putting up GREAT numbers and when you watch him, he has JUST as much poise late in games as RG3 and Andrew Luck. Pete Carroll really made a GREAT decision by making him the starting QB over Matt Flynn.

5) MARK SANCHEZ IS NOT A STARTER IN THE NFL

Now that we’ve ALL witnessed a Jets win while Mark Sanchez sat on the bench, it’s fair to say that the Jets DON’T need him to win games. Surprisingly it wasn’t Tebow who came in and let the Jets to a 7-6 win over the Cardinals – it was Greg McElroy [who?]. I don’t care what Rex Ryan says, if he wants to keep his job, Sanchez needs to be sitting beside him on the bench.

6) CAM CAMERON WILL BE THE DOWNFALL OF THE BALTIMORE RAVENS

The Ravens had NO REASON to lose to the Roethlisberger-less Steelers and let Charlie Batch carve them up. But even worse than their defence, was the mindless play-calling by offensive coordinator Cam Cameron. How does your best offensive player, Ray Rice, only get 13 carries? That’s BS.

7) CONGRATS TO THE CHIEFS ON AN EMOTIONAL WIN

Although I hate the Chiefs ON the field, I definitely feel sorry for what they had to go through following the suicide of their linebacker Jovan Belcher. They decided to actually play the game and they did a great job under a difficult situation.

More important than the game, I hope the families and friends of all those affected will be able to one day find some peace.

Monday Night Football Prediction: {Current Record 8-4}

- I have the Redskins upsetting the Giants on Monday
